Christine Reremoana Paul

Christine Reremoana was born in Whakatane and was educated at Taneatua Primary School and Kawerau College. In 1976 she moved to Christchurch. She has participated in a Māori Arts and Crafts skills course. From 1985-87 she attended Waiariki Polytech and graduated with a Certificate in Craft Design Māori. She later graduated with a Diploma in Design Māori. She is an educator and a Māori service provider in "Whakahou Services".

  • This is a short autobiographical statement outlining Paul’s development as an artist and the struggles she faced being the only ‘out’ lesbian Māori during most of her time at Waiariki Polytech. She briefly writes of the women-based themes she employs in her art work, which are given expression using Māori iconography and mythology.
