Hamish Bennett

Te Arawa



Hamish Bennett (Te Arawa, Ngāpuhi, Kāi Tahu) is a fulltime school teacher with a weekend sideline in writing and directing. He wrote and directed his first short film The Dump in 2011, which screened at festivals in New Zealand and around the world, including Palm Springs, Dallas, Brisbane and Nevada City. The Dump also won the 2012 NZ Writers Guild Award for Best Short Film Script. In 2012 Hamish co-wrote and co-directed the doco-comedy series Deane Waretini: Now is the Hour for Maori Television. He has recently completed filming on his second short film, Ross & Beth, which is currently in post-production.
