Rachel Buchanan has a PhD in history and is a writer. She has been widely published as a journalist, historian, essay writer and short story writer in New Zealand and Australia. Rachel was a lecturer in media studies at La Trobe University in Melbourne; prior to that, she worked on the Dominion, Evening Post and Sunday Star Times, and she was a reporter for the Southland Times and the Waikato Times. Most of her career has been as a journalist at The Age newspaper in Melbourne where she was a news reporter, feature writer, columnist, reviewer and sub-editor. Her fiction has been published in Sport, Landfall, Takahe and Meanjin.
Rachel has recently published Stop Press: The Last Days of Newspapers and an essay in Tell You What: Great New Zealand Non-fiction. She is currently living in Melbourne and working on a book of narrative fiction.
